Virginia Governor opens internal inquiry into Virginia SBE
Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell has opened up an “internal review” into the matters first posted here and here at ElectionLawCenter.com regarding the Secretary of the Virginia State Board of Elections. Keep checking this page for more information about the conduct of the Virginia SBE. We thank the many many people who have responded to our request for more information about the conduct of the SBE and Secretary Rodrigues and are processing the information and will post more in time.
Those conducting the inquiry should monitor this webpage because a great deal of information has yet to be reported.

Well, today Governor McDonnell held a press conference and released the audit findings of VDOT. It seems that there is quite a bit of money in the VDOT coffers; a little over $1 billion. Governor McDonnell is on the record saying "We will not tolerate incompetence, mismanagement, or waste of taxpayer money." Now, this is where we part ways. How can he insist that this not be tolerated at VDOT but it is acceptable at SBE. Now, I realize the amount of money in this case is substantially different from one scenario to the other; and at VDOT there was not criminal conduct but at SBE the illegal procurement activities associated with the EIS contract certainly rises to that level. Additionally, he went on to say that VDOT employees had not been well served by their managers and one had been fired and others may follow. When SBE employees come forward with allegations against the Agency Head, Nancy Rodrigues, with documents which substantiate Rodrigues' wrongdoings, the Governor owes it to his workforce and the taxpayers of the Commonwealth to launch an independent investigation just as he has done with VDOT; nothing more, nothing less. Otherwise, he will be judged very harshly and the voters will not forget. We all are familiar with the saying, 'what you do in the dark, will show up in the light." I don't expect my Governor to pick and choose when it is ok to look the other way when an agency is under siege, when the public trust is violated, when racial disparity is present, when armed police are dispatched to an ill employee's home, when illegal procurement activity is occurring, when questionable firings and layoffs are taking place, when personal friends benefit from contracts which are not procured in an open and competitive market, and when employees who are outside of the favor of the Agency Head, Nancy Rodrigues, are bullied exhaustively and described it as sheer hell. Rodrigues is not fit for office. However, the political gamesmanship is being played out here. Administration officials during their internal inquiry must have determined that this story would die and go away and that would be the end of it. SBE employees, I am a taxpayer and I wholeheartedly support your efforts and I am going to call the Governor's Office and ask that an investigation against Nancy Rodrigues be launched. Other taxpayers of Virginia should do the same.
