Slate recently had a piece arguing that voter registration and balloting should be nationalized and run by the federal government.  ELC opined this idea is a fringe nonstarter which, outside of academia, has no support.  The author apparently never sought to mail a 17 ounce parcel on December 22.  FoxNews provides another description of the efficiencies awaiting nationalized voter registration.
