Shelby County (AL) NAACP at odds over VRA

"A federal judge in Washington, D.C., will hear arguments Wednesday as part of Shelby County's challenge to two key provisions within the Voting Rights Act of 1965. . . . However, civil rights groups said the provisions serve to protect minorities from organized discrimination at polling places.  The provisions also help protect minority representation on local government bodies, said Benard Simelton, president of the Alabama Chapter of the NAACP."
